補習-More than 100 painters reside in Zhouzhuang

Chinanews, Nanjing, Dec.1 – The art town in Zhouzhuang, Jiangsu Province, has become a famous tourist spot recently. Since October this year, about 150 painters and art agents from the United States, Japan, Britain, Australia, Hong Kong SAR, and the mainland came to reside in the art town in Zhouzhuang. The art town, which occupies a total area of 300 mu (about 50 acres), was built in a garden style typically seen in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. On August 15, 2007, famous Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong came to Zhouzhuang to write down, in his distinctive-style calligraphy, the two Chinese characters for the name of the town. The great artist believed that the beautiful water town would provide a lot of inspiration for the artists living there. Indeed, in many people's eyes, the town itself looks like a piece of artwork. One of the painters Yin Ruilin, who came to reside in Zhouchuang from Shanghai, told this reporter about his impressions of Zhouzhuang. He said that surrounded by many cities, Zhouzhuang displayed an authentic village flavor typically seen in southern China. Therefore it provides an ideal place for artists to draw pictures, he said. Since local government has devoted great efforts to the project, the buildings and the environment near Zhouzhuang have been built with excellence. Local government has also offered much preferential treatment to painters so that they can produce their works whole-heartedly. Chen Jianzhong, an overseas Chinese who formerlly lived in France, was greatly impressed by the market operational scheme taken by Zhouzhuang. He said the operational mode was something similar to that taken by galleries in foreign countries. However, this is the first time for him to see that such mode is taken in China, and this might become a new operational mode for Chinese art circle, too, he noted.
